Volkswagen is presenting in Detroit (USA) an electric concept based on the New Beetle. Called Volkswagen E-Bugster Concept, the prototype is powered solely by electricity and features a driveline consisting of batteries that provide a range of approximately 160 km.
According to the brand, the nomenclature “E-Bugster” is nothing more than the addition of “E” for electricity, “Bug” nickname of the Beetle in the United States, and “ster” the speedster. The overall E-Bugster Concept picture is of a new Beetle, with emphasis on the low ceiling and striking 19-inch wheels.
The E-Bugster Concept propulsion system, called “Blue-and-motion”, is formed by a 113 horsepower electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries located under the rear seat. The batteries can be recharged in ordinary shots of 120 or 240 volts, but quick chargers complete 80% charge in just 30 minutes.
The same system, according to the brand will be used in future Golf Blue-and-motion.
